We arrived in Mandalay with Bangkok Airways which will be now one of my favourite airlines. On a 1,5 h our flight they served hot meal and the flight attendents where going back and forth asking if you want more wine at all times. As our phones got stolen on Full Moon Party we needed to buy some Asian shit called "Imobile Istyle" in MBK in Bangkok but we didnt have any other simcard then Thai so we decided to buy at the airport also Myanmar simcard with week of internet for 6500 kyatt.
1usd = 1300kyatt
We exchanged part of the money at the airport. The rate was not bad and its not that easy to find a "money changer" or working ATM. Even in the tourist places like Bagan they told us in one of them that they only have 1000 kyatt bancnotes which would mean carrying a pile of cash. Also it took us 1h to find ATM in Mandalay as most of them were "out of service".
Airport is located around 45 km from city center so it takes app 1 h to get there. Private taxi costs 12000 while if you have time to wait for a shared taxi you will pay 4000 per person. We took a shared taxi directly to one of Mandalay bus stations from which minibuses to Bagan are leaving. We took one of the last minibuses leaving Mandalay at 5 for which we paid 9000 per person. There was one stop on the way for dinner aroung 8 which is not included in the price as it happens in Laos sometimes. The road was supposed to take 4h but in the end we arrived after 10. But most probably because it was late we avoided paying 20usd Bagan temples entrance fee which was quite lucky.
