getting from luang prabang:
bus station in luang prabang is quite far so take a tuk tuk for 30,000 and buy tickets for "vip" bus for 105,000 in advance
the road is awful it was supposed to take 5 hours took us 8
tuk tuks from vang vieng bus station are rip off, we negotiated down to 15,000 pp but it was still too much for the distance so its better to just walk
we stayed in banana bungalows on the other side of the river which was nice and for a reasonable price 90,000 for 3 people until 1 night the rain fell and it was not possible to get there without getting half wet as the brigde was under water so its better just to stay in one of the hostels in the center
vang vieng once used to be crazy party town but its not anymore. in 2012 most of the pubs were closed as locals got fed up with drunken tourists. its more about chillout now but there are still some places to have fun
things to do:
-tubing 55,000 plus 60,000 deposit, now there are only 6 bars opened 3 on one day other 3 on the next one, the day we went there was only actually second middle bar worth stopping with some activities and drinking games, its gets crowded around 2.30 so dont go early in the morning, the last bar was expensive and boring, but be careful cause the distance between the bars is really short but from the last bar it takes an hour to get back and you should return the tube before 6 if you wanna get your whole deposit back
-chill out watching "friends" in one of the restaurants by the river
-do clubbing starting in sakura where they have happy hour from 9 to 10 (free drink), next stop is fat monkeys (happy hour till 11) and then follow the crowd to one of the clubs on the main street which are opposite from each other and as the bars on tubing are changing the opening days, once a week there is a jungle party instead of it
-chill out in "opium bar", do some laughing gas or "shotguns"
-go to blue lagoon, its 2 hours walk or get a tuk tuk for 10,000 pp on the way as its cheaper then arranging it in the city, entrance to the lagoon and cave is 10,000 (take a flashlight its also possible to rent it for extra fee and good shoes), its a beautiful place but full of screaming asians at least when we were there
-get a massage, 50,000 for 1hour lao traditional which is similar to thai but less hurtful
-eat a pancake from one of the street stalls
